After a year of suffering bloggers block without even being a blogger, it is time to overcaome my fears and challenge my aspirations…So let me start with thanking you for joining the NUI generation: Thank you for being inspired by the concepts of ethical, sustainable and fair. Thank you for being dedicated to help make this world a better place. Thank you for being passionate about empowering communities in the South Pacific.Â We all have our reasons to excercise our consciousness, but at the end of the day, it is our vision for this beautiful world that will shape our future. We are the lucky generation, we can make easy and profound choices every day that can improve the prospects for our children, and our neighbours children. We can “live the life as we want the world to be”.Climate change is our present day affliction that does not discriminate!! Globalization is here to stay! However, the beauty of the Pacific, its cultures and its islands are at the forefront of this ruthless change. While we are contemplating rising fuel costs, rising sea levels are the real challenge for Pacific communities today…. But what can we do?…..Every day, we are linking communities to the market in a way that benefits all of our Nui stakeholders: Our partner communities, our staff, our shareholders, our planet and you….the nui generation, our customer … and the final link that creates the cycle of continuity. Linking you with the communities that supply the products you are enjoying allows them to make sustainable and postitive economic decisions, and allows us, in partnership, to be part of their journey. We can be the change!Purchasing power through your dollars is the energy that directs the path of the economic system, and with your choices, you can fuel the fire of change. You are setting the course towards a sustainable and fair economic system. My journey started 10 years ago, sailing among the most beautiful people and islands of the world: the South Pacific I experienced the struggle of these small, distant and scattered communities to try and reach any market for their produce …let alone the international market. As an economist inspired by the possibilities of change , I wanted to ask a question….”is it possible to bring the products and stories of the communities to the market …is it possible to link 10 000 communities in the South Pacific with 1 000 000 customers around the world in ethical, sustainable and fair trade.?” My role as founder and Chief Storytelling Officer is to inform you on our vision, our plans, our partners and our team. As a business for change, we built the back end first to make sure we can deliver on our aspirations and dreams. We have a network of around 4000 communities across the Pacific, working in partnership to bring positive, sustainable and fair economic outcomes. Our Nui devotees are out there, you have supported us since we launched the world first certified organic and fair trade soap range in 2001.I ask you to continue to support us through your purchases, whether online, in the stores or the markets. We have a long way to go to reach our goals and at the end of the day, you are the judge of our work, our quality, our image, and our ethics. If you enjoy what you see, tell a friend. If you don’t, tell a friend. That is part of your role in the Nui generation. Many of you signed up online or we have met at trade shows. Most of you know our products and now I am asking you to become a stakeholder in the Nui brand, to co-create with us to make the Nui generation achieve its goals: NUI GenerationLive Beautiful* to cater for the sustainable home, healthy and fair products inspired by the communities of the South Pacific,* to build a creative and ethical market place for our nui productsÂ that empower our partner communities * to support the most vulnerable communities in the Pacific as they face the challenges of Climate changeJuly sees the start of the changes that many of you have asked for in product sizes, new food product launches, prices, recipes and communication. We start with an exclusive offer to NUI Generation members on our present products. It is time to build the front end, and we wish to do this together. We are always behind in our aspirations, and I guess this is the nature of being human. However, let reality not blind our intentions and aspirations. The vision is clear, the course plotted and together I am confident we will create an amazing movement fighting for a better world. Much of the process is still being built, anybody willing to help let me know! I am grateful for your support in the past, and hope that we can move forward together and create something beautiful that will inspire the next generation. Developing long term trading relationships with island producers in the South Pacific.
Assisting island communities to establish independent entrepreneurship by purchasing directly from local communities.
Encouraging work opportunities for women to strengthen the producer’s organisations.
Protecting the income-generation of the most vulnerable of our participating communities in the South Pacifi c, by creating long-term brand equity through our Nui certifi ed organic range of products.
Encouraging the improvement in production standards and product quality by:1. Offering incentives to participating producers in the South Pacific.2. Continuing to research and develop appropriate technology for the production and processing of virgin coconut oil.
Respecting the right to Fair Trade over free trade by seeking to pay above free market and government prices for goods purchased from local trades people and encouraging local entrepreneurship through the diversification of micro-businesses.
Supporting participating operations through sustainable management and service in relation to organic certifi cation, education,and appropriate technological applications for production and product quality, improving organisational and logistical dynamics, service and distribution of virgin coconut oil from the South Pacific.
Encouraging and facilitating the building of local infrastructure for the conversion to Certified Organic production in the South Pacific.
Minimising environmental damage by upholding a zero-tolerance approach to:1. Pollution within the manufacturing process of our products.2. By encouraging all participants to maintain an environmentally neutral presence using organically grown products, the harvesting of which has not affected the local resource stock,3. By advocating a policy of recyclable or reusable packaging to all our clients.
Encouraging an anti-waste philosophy by recycling 100% of all raw materials used in the production of virgin coconut oil.
Supporting and upholding a zero-tolerance approach to product testing on animals either in research or in the manufacturing process.
